What is an ASN?

An Autonomous System Number identifies a network or collection of networks that presents a common routing policy to the global internet. ISPs, mobile carriers, cloud platforms, content-delivery networks, universities and large enterprises can operate one or more Autonomous Systems.

What does an ASN lookup tell you?

RDAP registration for an ASN can identify the registered handle and name, country field, number range, events and related entities. Combined with IP data, the ASN helps explain which broader network announces or carries the address you are investigating.

Why ASN data matters for IP analysis

City-level geolocation may be uncertain, but the ASN can still provide strong network context.
